After leaving Moab with a whole new love of Utah, we were excited to continue exploring into Bryce Canyon!
We took the scenic UT-12 and it was a GORGEOUS drive. The drive itself was a little difficult but Orlando made it look easy. The views were amazing and we could feel the air getting cooler with the elevation gains. This Route took use through the Dixie National Forest where cows were free range and grazing on the sides of the street (see photos!)
Once we arrrived at Bryce, it had been a long day but felt like it flew by. We were all famished and couldn’t wait to eat dinner. We got the airstream set up up at Rubys RV park. There was a restaurant called at the hotel next to the campground we stayed at called Rubys Inn where we went in to see a huge buffet and crowds of people. It turns out the town of Bryce Canyon was heavily developed by a man named Ruby and his wife Minnie. The dinner was absolutely amazing, Lando got ribs that he loved and the kids were both out of this world excited for the soft serve and topping that they could serve for themselves.
We woke up to an even chillier temperature in Bryce Canyon and set out for the park. The kids were pretty tired so we did mostly
Scenic drives. Orlando and I each individually hiked up (I went up first and then be went when I came back) to inspiration point a beautiful trail with 360 view of Bryce Canypn while the kids napped in the car.
It was too cold to go to the outdoor pool but Orlando had the idea to go to the indoor pool at Rubys Inn that ended up being such a fun surprise. It was heated and was a fun change from the previous pools!
The next day, we headed to Zion! It was a very short drive compared to the previous ones (only 3-4 hrs!) so we took our time leaving and went to the pool one last time 🤗 There was an unfortunate misunderstanding of the RV size requirements to enter Zion through the east entrances so we were asked to turn around and lost a couple hours to drive around the park to the west side where our campground was. Woops! We took the opportunity to enjoy some roadside “Ho-made Pies”….no big deal, we arrived at Zion River RV Resort in the later evening. It was a nice campground with cement slab spots. We just did dinner in the campsite and tried to get to bed early to rest and planned to go out into the park the next day. After some debate, we decided to hike on the narrows trail at Zion. It was a long trail that takes you from a land hike into the virgin river. Literally into it, the second half of the hike we were knee deep and the kids were waist deep in water. Cold water! Luckily it was much warmer outside and we all tolerated. Actually it was the kids favorite hike we had done yet! This was the hike that Orlando spotted a black widow looking very stereotypical on the rocks in the Narrows After this when leaving the park we got some super tasty iced coffees and smoothies at a shop right outside of the park entrance. Although Fia is not a fan of hiking multiple days in a row we used the “water feature” exception to get her onboard to hike to the lower emerald pool the next day. It was just a beautiful day and a quick and easy hike! She did great!!
Also, we have a new habit of doing laundry on low key/travel days and we found a pizza food truck next door with gigantic special lemonades!
